It is important to practice good dental hygiene every day to prevent your teeth from developing any germs or diseases. Bacteria can live inside of your mouth and cause cavities or gum diseases as a result of bad dental habits which can affect your overall facial look and your speech, hence it is
important to practice good dental hygiene, which is a lot cheaper and less painful than after problems develop in the mouth. Here are some good dental habits that should be performed every day to ensure that no germs have a chance to attack your teeth and gums.
Brush
Make sure that a dental practitioner approves the products you use, these includes toothbrush, toothpaste, floss and mouth wash. It is advisable to use a toothbrush that has soft bristles as opposed to hard bristles, moreover, it is good dental hygiene to replace your toothbrush at least once in 3 or 4 months, this prevents the germs and bacteria in the toothbrush affecting your teeth.
Numerous people around the world unconsciously brush without being aware of how well and how long they are spending brushing their teeth, so use a timer to make sure that you spend a minimum of three attentive minutes to brush your teeth two times a day.
While brushing remember to brush three surfaces in the mouth, the outer, inner and the chewing surfaces of the teeth. Brushing the tongue is also a good practice to kills the bacteria in the tongue and keeps your breathe devoid of bad odor.
Remember to rinse your mouth well before and after a meal. This is because after a meal the acid from acidic foods like tomatoes and citrus fruits settles on top of the teeth, therefore rinsing immediately will result in the acid being diluted. Hence, it is good practice to rinse the mouth thoroughly after eating or instead you can brush 30 minutes after eating.
Flossing
It is imperative that flossing is done once a day to destroy the food particles that linger around in the mouth between the teeth. These food particles more often than not carry diseases that cause a cavity in the teeth. In the beginning, flossing can lead to bleeding and some pain, but daily practice of flossing will result in the gums and teeth becoming sturdy and tough.
Flossing is easy and does not take long, just wind the floss around your middle finger of each hand and steer the floss between the teeth, when it reaches the gums arch the floss towards one of the teeth in a C shape, and slowly slide it down to remove the bacteria accumulated between the teeth.
Just rinsing the mouth with some mouthwash along with brushing and flossing can keep your mouth clean from germs and bacteria. Again, it is important to refer with your dental practitioner to find the right mouthwash for you. A fluoride mouthwash reduces the bacteria in the mouth but caution is advised for children because they could swallow the mouthwash.
