What are the three of the many things that run through a woman's mind in her childbearing age? The answer is relationships, marriage, and children. However, many couples find that it is harder to become pregnant than they believed it would be after trying to conceive for a lot of time. According to Southern California Reproductive Center, there are six things that can affect female fertility.
In fact, a female was born with all the eggs you will ever have. You don't lose them one by one - you lose them
exponentially. There can be many factors contributing to infertility, sometimes making it difficult to determine what is causing the infertility problem. After knowing some factors that affect fertility, it can help improve the chances of conceiving. They can be classified into 3 types: the good, the bad, and the ugly.
The Good:
Birth control pills: It's commonly believed to prevent pregnancy for birth control pills. In fact, it has other functions of helping protect future fertility. It can not only reduce the risk of ovarian cancer, but also can decrease the risk of upper genital tract infections as it can thicken cervical mucus and increase the activity of the ovary.
The Bad:
Alcohol: Excessive alcohol use are harmful to the liver, it can also lead to risky and unsafe sexual practices. This can result in some STDs accordingly and cause future infertility finally.
Smoking: As we all know, smoking is not a good habit that can affect your health from several aspects, including fertility. For female, it can affect the motility or movement of the fallopian tubes, making it harder for an egg to move through the tube.
Overexercising: Proper exercise can enhance the physical and mental health definitely. Excessive exercise, however, can cause an unhealthy decrease in body fat, such as too-frequent and long-distance running. According to some surveys, your ovaries will begin to "believe" that you are starving to death and lose their ability to function normally when your body fat is decreased past a certain limit.
Excessive weight loss/gain: Just as mentioned above, ovulation requires a certain amount of body fat. Excessive weight loss can cause permanent damage, like losing the ability to ovulate. On the other hand, excess weight gain can also cause problems, leading to insulin resistance and diabetes, which can cause irregular menstrual cycles as a result of poor ovulation.
The Ugly (and Uncomfortable):
Endometriosis/pelvic pain: Endometriosis is the abnormal growth of the endometrium outside the uterus in females' body. Endometrial tissue is expelled through the cervix into the vagina during a normal menstrual period. When this tissue implants and grows, endometriosis occurs. These implants can cause indirect damage to the fallopian tubes via adhesions or direct damage to the ovary by implantation on the ovarian surface. However, it's curable for endometriosis with suitable treatments like herbal medicine, Fuyan Pill and other pain relievers like hormone birth controls.
If you are trying to conceive, don't forget the factors mentioned above to increase your fertility chances. If failed also, please discuss with your doctor to find the exact causes of your infertility and get proper treatments. A complete fertility workup may be necessary to determine if there is an underlying problem preventing you from successfully conceiving.
